This ancient boat was discovered in 1986 on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Radiocarbon dating places it around the time of Jesus, and it is highly likely some of his disciples may have used the same type of boat for fishing.
The boat hull is about 8 meters long and 2 meters wide. It is made of mostly cedar planks joined together by pegged mortise and tenon joints and nails.
It has a flat-bottom allowing it to get close to the shore and a mast that the fishermen could use to sail the boat.
